Open Minds is a creative platform for all individuals to express themselves and showcase their talents – this could be through spoken word, dance, musical instruments and many more. We also encourage character development through our workshops, with the aim of teaching key transferable skills such as public speaking and leadership beneficial for everyday life, in a safe and fun environment. We consider ourselves different to many societies in Loughborough, as we are an umbrella for all. We aim to be a safe haven for all our members.

We have had a lot of success in the past from our events. Some of our success includes our public speaking and leadership workshop, where we were able to bring in external speakers, who were able to educate our students on tips on articulation and shaping yourself into a leader of tomorrow. We also had a Mental health awareness showcase. A common myth is that mental health problems are rare but people were surprised to discover that 1 in 4 people will experience mental health problems within a given year. Our aim was to reassure members and those in the wider community that we are here to support our members through any challenges they may be facing, as well as remind them of the help available in the University.

We have a lot of events planned for this academic year and it is important for us to continue this success. We are always trying to find better ways to cater for our members. We want to be able to encourage everyone to follow their passions, take advantage of the facilities within university and most importantly, enjoy their university experience.

We wish you all the best this academic year and we look foward to seeing you at our events!
